Former LoP Wadettiwar Slams Mangeshkars Over Woman’s Death at Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital |

The Congress party in the state is facing a major embarrassment with its senior leader Vijay Wadettiwar targeting the late singing legend and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar and her family.

Wadettiwar, who is a former leader of opposition, aggressively attacked the Mangeshkars in the background of the death of a woman at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. The hospital demanded a deposit of Rs 10 lakhs before granting admission. Denied medical help she passed away creating a huge storm.

Wadettiwar said land for the hospital was given by the government and instead of running it on charitable basis it was being operated as a business. He accused the family of being a “gang of looters” and went on to ask what contribution it has made to the nation.

These remarks have created a national uproar with the BJP and other parties slamming Wadettiwar and the Congress for making “absurd” remarks.

Lata Mangeshkar and her siblings had raised crores of rupees for establishing the hospital in memory of their father Dinanath who was a prominent artiste in his own right. In fact they built the hospital against all odds precisely to provide good medical facilities to the poor and middle class. The family has no role in the day to Day administration of the institution.

In fact, the management has publicly admitted it’s mistake in demanding the Rs 10 lakh deposit and apologised for the same.
