Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): There have been three incidents of communal violence in three places in the state in ten days. Communal tension is deepening in the state called an island of peace and harmony.

Communal flare-ups ignites right after Champions Trophy in Mhow

Petty disputes among certain groups, turning into communal flare-ups, have become a major challenge for the district administration and the police. After the Champions Trophy final match on March 9, there was an incident of communal violence in Mhow. But there seems to be no let-up in communal tension.

The district administration swung into action and brought the situation under control in Mhow. But the flames of communal discord are spreading to other areas. A message on social media on Tuesday night sparked communal tension in Burhanpur.

A large number of people belonging to a community took to streets. Peace returned only after the police registered a case and acted against some people. An incident of suicide by a girl in Umracha village, Ganj Basoda, descended into communal tension. The villagers angry with the youth of another community set several houses and cars on fire.

The Vidisha district administration quelled the mob. Before these incidents, communal tension was witnessed in Bhopal, Shajapur and other cities a few days ago. Because of continuous communal tension, the police and district administration are facing the heat. People of various communities are celebrating festivals.

Holi is underway, and Eid is around the corner. Against this backdrop, the challenges for the police are increasing. (box) IG (law and order) Anshuman Singh said there were different reasons behind each incident that had taken place. He said the district administration had been told to remain alert.

The administration has been told to take action as quickly as possible, Singh said, adding that there are instructions to remain prepared for any situation. “In fact, challenges in rural areas are more than what we face in the urban areas, so we are sparing no effort to ensure that such incidents do not happen,” Singh further said.
