Also, former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri’s name was in contention from Kalkaji, currently represented by Delhi CM Atishi. Notably, the New Delhi seat has been a stronghold of the Delhi Chief Minister since 1998, barring 2014 and 2015 and after Kejriwal stepped down from the post in September this year. Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit held the seat from 1998 until 2013, while Kejriwal has represented it from 2015. The Assembly elections are slated for early next year in the national Capital.
