Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The State Transport Department has become problematic for officers. Commissioners have not stayed in the department for a long time in the past five years. Every officer is removed on one pretext or another.

D P Gupta was removed on Thursday after raids on the residential premises of a former constable of the department and after complaints that there were extortions at the check points.

Earlier to the shifting of Gupta, Madhu Kumar, Mukesh Jain and Sanjay Jha were suddenly removed. Madhu Kumar was removed within ten months of his posting in the department after a video of a case of corruption went viral.

Nevertheless, he was given a clean chit afterwards. Jain, too, was removed for some complaints against him. He was not on good terms with the then Transport Minister Govind Singh Rajput.

After Jain, Sanjay Jha, who was posted there, was removed within one and a half years after a bus accident. After Jha, Gupta was posted in the department, but he, too, was removed within 11 months of his posting.

According to sources in the Transport Department, it is difficult to remain there for a long time because of rampant corruption and chaos. Extortions at the check posts had already tarnished the image of the department, sources said.

Although check post system was done away with and check points started, extortions by the officials did not stop, which damaged the department’s reputation further, sources said. Besides, there are irregularities in RTO office, for which complaints are regularly sent to the higher-ups.
