Stand-up comedian Swati Sachdeva has found herself at the center of controversy after a video of one of her latest performances went viral on social media. In her routine, she shared a humourous yet controversial anecdote about her mother discovering a vibrator in her room. The joke has sparked outrage, with many accusing her of promoting obscenity in the name of comedy.
In the viral clip, Swati jokes about how her mother is trying to be a ‘cool mom’ but struggles to do so. During the act, she narrates an incident where her mother found a vibrator in her room and hesitated to say the word out loud, fearing it might turn on. She also said, “Ye pakka mera vibrator udhaar maangne vali hai (She’s definitely going to ask to borrow my vibrator).”
The comedian further joked that, to avoid embarrassment, she jokingly told her mother it belonged to her father. The segment, filled with witty exchanges, was met with laughter from the audience but has not gone down well with many on social media.
Netizens slam Swati Sachdeva, some come out in her support
Soon after the video surfaced on social media, a section of users criticised Swati for making personal family matters the subject of adult humour, claiming it crosses the line of decency. Some have compared the controversy to the backlash faced by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia for similar jokes in the past.

“Shameless…sharmnaak. Thodi bahut hansi majaak chalta hai par ye to ab had hi kar rhe…@GoI_MeitY @PMOIndia need to ban or restrict the content in these shows,” an angry user wrote on X.
Another commented, “Khud ko famous krne k liye perents ki koi respect nhi hai.”
“#Shame. In the name of comedy and independence some women are defaming the whole community,” read another comment, whereas another person wrote, “Disgusting, her parents should be ashamed of them selves.” Some also called her comedy ‘filth’.
A section of users also tagged Delhi Police and demanded strict action against her. On the other hand, defending Swati, a user wrote, “Isme kya galt lag gaya tujhe …weed, cigarette, daru pite huye pakad liya vo theek hai vibrator sun liya to bura lag gaya …#righttojoke.”
Swati adds disclaimer
Swati is yet to respond to the criticism. Meanwhile, while posting the video of her stand-up act on YouTube, Swati added a disclaimer which read, “The video contains occasional use of strong language and adult humour for comedic purposes, viewer discretion is advised.”
Further talking about the video, Swati wrote, “Family First is all jokes family but is it family friendly? Well, that you will find out for yourself once you watch this comedy video till the very end. This routine is a part of my solo show ‘So Rude Of Me’ with which I have toured all over the country for last three years and it’s been quite a journey. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it.”
