The cold wave conditions affecting north India for the past two days will lead to a significant decrease in minimum temperatures in Bengaluru in the coming days.
The India Meteorological Department in Bengaluru forecasts a minimum temperature dropping to 10.2 degree Celsius on Saturday, significantly lower than the average January minimum of 15.8 degree Celsius recorded in the city.
Recorded Lowest Temperatures
According to the IMD’s historical records, the lowest minimum temperature ever documented in Bengaluru is 7.8 degrees Celsius, which occurred on January 13, 1884. The minimum temperatures noted in the city during January over the past 15 years were 12 degrees Celsius on January 16, 2012, and 12.3 degrees Celsius on January 15, 2019.
The IMD forecast for Bengaluru’s minimum temperature over the next 48 hours suggests temperatures may drop to between 10 degrees Celsius and 12.5 degrees Celsius, with an average minimum expected around 15 degrees Celsius.
The minimum average temperature noted in the city on Thursday was 16.7 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature noted on Thursday was 14.10 degrees Celsius in Hemmigepura.
The IMD forecast indicates that “fog/mist is probable in certain regions of Bengaluru city and its outskirts during the early morning hours.” It is highly probable that the Maximum and Minimum temperatures will be approximately 27°C and 15°C, respectively.
The intense cold wave in northern India led to harsh cold wave conditions in some areas of north Karnataka from December 15 to 20. On December 16, Bengaluru experienced a minimum temperature of 12.4 degrees Celsius, which was below the previous lowest minimum of 12.8 degrees Celsius recorded since 2011 on December 24, 2011.
