Severe cold continues throughout North India including the national capital Delhi. This process of cold is likely to become more intense on the occasion of New Year. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning saying that cold wave is going to hit North-West India from December 30. Along with this, a period of dense to very dense fog will also begin.

What does the weather department’s forecast say?

  1. Cold wave and drop in temperature:
    • The minimum temperature in Uttar Pradesh will drop by 6 degrees Celsius in the next five days.
    • The minimum temperature in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Delhi may drop by 3-4 degrees Celsius in the next three days.
    • The temperature is also likely to drop by 3-5 degrees in parts of Central India and East India.
  2. Fog:
    • Dense to very dense fog will prevail over most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
    • Visibility may also be very low in the morning in the plains like Delhi and Chandigarh.
  3. Cold wave alert:
    • Cold wave alert has been issued in Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab from December 31 to January 2.
    • There will be an effect of cold wave in Rajasthan from 30 December to 2 January.

  • Fog:
    • Very dense fog was recorded in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
  • Rain:
    • Heavy rain occurred in some areas of Uttarakhand.
  • temperature:
    • The minimum temperature in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh remains below zero.
    • The lowest temperature was recorded at 5.7 degrees Celsius in Sikar, Rajasthan.

  2. Central India:

  3. East India:
    • Even in Bihar and Jharkhand, the temperature is now declining after being above average.
  4. Maharashtra:
    • The temperature may drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next five days.

Effect of Western Disturbance

According to the Meteorological Department, there will be a change in the weather in North-West India from January 6. A new Western Disturbance is about to become active, due to which there is a possibility of a slight increase in temperature and change in weather.

  1. Take special care of the elderly and children.
  2. Use warm clothes and prepare houses to protect from cold.
  3. Be especially cautious while driving during fog on the road.
  4. Distribute blankets and warm clothes to the needy.
