Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal shivered with a sharp drop in day temperature on Thursday. However, night temperature increased by four degrees Celsius but day temperature recorded a sharp drop infusing biting cold in the evening in the state capital.
Day temperature ranged between 15 -20 degrees Celsius at many districts like Tikamgarh, Nowgong, Guna, Ratlam, Shivpuri and Gwalior, according to the meteorological department report. Bhopal recorded a sharp drop of 2.4 degrees Celsius in day temperature which settled at 23.4 degrees Celsius while it recorded a sharp rise of 4.0 degrees Celsius at 15.0 degrees in night.
Indore recorded a sharp drop of 4.4 degrees Celsius in day temperature at 22.6 degrees Celsius while it recorded 16.6 degrees Celsius in night. Yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in Gwalior, Datia districts.
Similarly, moderate fog is likely in Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Chhatarpur and Niwari. Moderate fog with thunderstorm and lightning are likely in Tikamgarh.
Thunderstorm with lightning is likely in Rewa, Satna and Panna districts. During the last 24 hours rainfall was recorded in Indore, Ujjain and Chambal division. Maximum temperatures dipped in Bhopal, Gwalior, Rewa division and increased in districts of Indore, Ujjain, Shahdol divisions. Minimum temperatures rose in Bhopal, Narmadapuram and Shahdol.
It rose above normal in districts of Gwalior, Rewa, Sagar, Bhopal, Indore, Narmadapuram, Ujjain and Shahdol divisions. Moderate to dense fog prevailed in Bhind, Morena, Nivari, Chhatarpur districts and shallow fog prevailed in Sheopur Kalan, Gwalior, Datia, Shivpuri, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Agar, Ujjain, Rajgarh, Guna and Ashoknagar districts. Minimum visibility of 100 metres was recorded at Khajuraho while it was 400 metres in Gwalior Airport.
School holidays declared in six dists due to severe cold wave
Due to severe cold wave and dense fog in various parts of Madhya Pradesh, district administrations in six districts have announced holidays for schools on Thursday to ensure the safety of students. In Ujjain and Shajapur, all private and government schools, including Anganwadis will remain closed for classes from nursery to Class 8 on January 17.
In Ratlam, Agar-Malwa and Chhatarpur district, the administration has extended holiday for schools from nursery to Class 8 for two days, on January 17 and 18, owing to extreme cold conditions. Similarly in Morena, the district administration has taken precautionary measures by declaring a holiday on January 18 for KG, nursery to Class 8.
