New Delhi: Entire north and northwest India is shivering under extreme cold wave conditions for the past few days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense fog and cold day conditions are likely to continue over parts of northwest and central India during the next two days and improve thereafter. Meanwhile, wet spell over the Western Himalayan Region during the next one week and over the plains of northwest India on January 5 and 6.
In the past 24 hours, cold day to severe cold day conditions were observed in isolated pockets of Haryana, East Rajasthan and East Madhya Pradesh and cold day conditions in isolated pockets of Punjab and West Madhya Pradesh.
Rainfall Warning:
A fresh western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over Iraq & neighbourhood in lower and middle tropospheric levels. Due to this weather phenomenon, light to scattered rainfall is likely over the Western Himalayan region.
“Light isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall over Western Himalayan region from 01st to 03rd and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall over the region from 04th to 06th January. Heavy rainfall/snowfall at isolated places also likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on 05th January 2025,” the IMD said.
“Light isolated to scattered rainfall also likely over the plains of Northwest India during 04th to 06th January 2025,” it added.
Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation lies over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal in lower tropospheric levels. It is very likely to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning at isolated places with heavy rainfall at isolated places over south Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
Cold Wave Warning:
Cold Day to severe cold day conditions are very likely to prevail in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh on January 1 and in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh on January 2.
Meanwhile, cold day conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh till January 2.
Dense Fog Warnings:
Dense fog conditions are predicted during late night/early morning hours in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Odisha till Thursday and over, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till January 3. Similar weather conditions are very likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till January 6.
Ground Frost Warning:
Ground Frost conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till January 3.
Change in Temperatures:
A rise in minimum temperatures by three to five Degree Celsius is likely over Northwest India during the next five days.
No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over East India during the next three days and a gradual rise by two to four Degree Celsius thereafter.
A rise in minimum temperatures by two to four Degree Celsius is likely over Maharashtra during the next three days and no significant change thereafter.
No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over Central India and Gujarat during the next five days.
