Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Cold has returned in Bhopal and other places with further drop in temperature on Friday. Impact of cold day prevailed in Raisen, Dhar, Shajapur districts in the last 24 hours.
Orange alert has been issued for cold impact. Districts which are likely to experience significant cold weather impact include Rajgarh, Raisen, Dhar, Shajapur, Sehore, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Chhatarpur, Umaria and Shahdol.
Similarly, districts which are likely to experience Moderate Cold Weather Impact include Vidisha, Jhabua, Agar, Guna, Datia, Sheopur Kalan, Morena, Bhind, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Panna, Satna, Maihar, Maugang, Singrauli and Anuppur.
Bhopal recorded a drop of 2.6 degrees Celsius in day temperature at 23.2 degrees Celsius while it recorded a night temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius. Indore recorded 24.3 degrees Celsius while it recorded a night temperature of 12.0 degrees Celsius after a drop of 1.4 degrees Celsius.
Indore city witnessed a sharp dip in temperature on Friday as north-easterly winds lashed the region, intensifying the winter chill. The maximum temperature was recorded at 23.5°C, five degrees below normal, while the night temperature fell to 12°C due to the change in wind patterns.
According to weather officials, a fresh western disturbance is expected to affect northern India from February 8, which might push temperatures up in the coming days. However, daytime temperature is likely to remain close to normal at this time of the year.
For February, the mean maximum temperature for Indore stands at 29.4°C, while the mean minimum temperature is 12.6°C. However, with the ongoing cold spell, temperatures have remained below this range, making the nights especially chilly.
Cold north-westerly winds have picked up speed. These winds increased the chill factor and dropped the temperature. Following the likely arrival of a fresh western disturbance, the temperatures will rise once again and the wind speed is expected to drop till February 10, according to meteorological department officials.
The western disturbance will influence weather conditions February 10 onwards. This feature points towards the impending change of season. Days are expected to become warmer with mercury rising in mid-February. The minimum temperature will also show an upward trend during the second half of February.
