Mumbai : Colaba Police have arrested a man who allegedly followed women to their homes, harassed them, and then locked their doors from outside before fleeing. The accused, identified as Nuren Mohammad Khalid (22), is a native of Basti district in Uttar Pradesh and has been temporarily residing in Mumbai’s Govandi area. He works as a tailor and moved to Mumbai four months ago. During interrogation, the accused confessed to his crimes, according to the police. A case has been registered under sections 74, 78(2), 79, and 296(a) of the BNS Act for molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman.
According to police, the incident occurred on December 11, around 3:30 PM, when a 58-year-old woman, temporarily staying with a friend in Colaba, was harassed by the accused. He followed the woman to the premises, entered the area where she was staying, and behaved obscenely. The victim managed to shut the door on him, but the accused locked it from the outside before fleeing.
Initially, the victim declined to file a complaint, but her friend’s son stepped forward to register the case. Following the complaint, police began investigating and analysing CCTV footage from the area. After a thorough search, police arrested Khalid, who admitted to the crime during questioning. Authorities suspect that the accused may have committed similar acts against other women. The police are interrogating him further to gather additional details. Investigations in the case are ongoing.
