The Delhi government is going to implement the Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0 soon. A major change has come to light in the draft of this policy, under which it has been recommended to gradually remove CNG-powered auto-rickshaws from the capital. According to officials, registration of CNG Auto in Delhi will be discontinued from 15 August 2025 and no CNG auto permit will be renewed further. After this only electric auto will be given permits.
Key things of draft policy
- CNG autos, older than 10 years, will either be replaced by new electric auto or will be used again by making batteries.
- Two -wheelers operating from petrol, diesel and CNG in Delhi from 15 August 2026 will not be allowed to run
- Petrol, diesel and CNG three wheelers will not be registered for freight from 15 August 2025
- Municipal corporation, NDMC and Jal Board garbage vehicles are targeted to be fully electric by 31 December 2027.
Different rules for buses
DTC and DIMTS have been recommended to purchase only electric buses for intra-city bus service. However, BS-VI diesel buses will be launched for buses going from one state to another.
Rules for private car owners
Those who already have two vehicles, they will be able to buy only electric cars next time after the EV policy is implemented.
There may be changes in some recommendations
Officials say changes are possible during cabinet approval in rules related to two -wheelers. The current EV policy of the Delhi government has ended on 31 March, which has been extended for 15 days. It is believed that this is the final expansion because the new policy is almost ready. It will be implemented as soon as the cabinet is approved.
The aim of this new policy is to reduce the number of traditional fuel vehicles in Delhi and improve air pollution by promoting electric vehicles.
