Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Kala Sankul, a state-of-the-art complex which is poised to become the hub of the city’s vibrant art and culture, is set to be completed in May. Chief minister Dr Mohan Yadav inspected the under-construction complex located on the site of the former Marathi School on MG Road, on Sunday.

During the inspection, former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, water resources minister Tulsiram Silawat, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav and other officials and public representatives were also present. Kala Sankul, being built at an estimated cost of more than Rs 55 crore, is a monumental project by the Indore Smart City Company.

The complex is currently in the final stages of construction and is expected to provide a modern platform for artistes and cultural events. “The development of Kala Sankul is aimed at celebrating the rich history of Indore’s art scene and offer a world-class venue for both local and national artistes.

Designed with the needs of the artistic community in mind, the facility will serve as a hub for exhibitions, performances and cultural programmes,” Indore Smart City CEO Divyank Singh said. Spanning over 1.7 lakh sq ft, the complex includes a 500-seat open-air amphitheatre, a multipurpose hall for 400 people and a spacious auditorium for 550 spectators.

The complex will also feature an art gallery, dance and drama halls, a library and dedicated spaces for practice and rehearsals. Kala Sankul will cater to both artistes and visitors with additional amenities, including a restaurant, food court, accommodation for visiting artistes and ample parking facilities.

The building will also include art-related shops, showrooms and a grand entry podium with a reception area to welcome guests. To ensure comfort, the complex will be equipped with air- conditioning and other modern conveniences.
