Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday had urged the central government to request the United Nations to deploy a peacekeeping mission in Bangladesh.

Talking at the state Legislative Assembly, Mamata said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should intervene to facilitate the return of Indians stuck there.

“It is the central government’s issue and I have already mentioned that we will support the decision that will be taken by the central government. I don’t know why they are keeping mum. I don’t mind facilitating our people and can share our bread with them,” said Mamata.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also mentioned in the House floor that Union minister of external affairs S. Jaishankar should inform the Parliament about the country’s stance about the current situation of the neighbouring country.

Mamata also mentioned that 79 Indian fishermen are arrested in Bangladesh for entering Bangladeshi waters.

“If any Bangladeshi fishermen enter our water we ensure their safe return but our fishermen are arrested for entering their water,” Mamata further mentioned.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari along with few BJP MLAs and saints of Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti visited Petrapole Indo-Bangladesh international border.

Adhikari threatened the Muhhamad Yunus led interim-government of Bangladesh of total ‘export embargo’ if the attack on Hindu minorities and temples are not stopped.

“Today there is a 24 hour trade embargo. If the arrested monks are not released and if the attacks on Hindu minorities and temples are not stopped then from next week, we will put an embargo on trade for five days a week and then complete embargo. Let us see how people of Bangladesh can live without potatoes and onions,” mentioned Adhikari.

Swami Parmatmananda of Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti said that Hindus should ‘unite’ and fight back the present atrocities.
