Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday met the family of Ishwari Bhise, the pregnant woman who allegedly died after being turned away by Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital over non-payment of a ₹10 lakh advance for treatment.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Amit Gorkhe shared pictures of the interaction on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Today, the victim’s family met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Balewadi, Pune. The CM took information about the case and assured that strict action would be taken as soon as possible.”
Incidentally, the deceased woman was the wife of Gorkhe’s personal secretary. It was he who raised the issue by posting a video message on X on Friday evening. In the video, Gorkhe claimed that despite an assurance to pay ₹3 lakh immediately, the hospital denied admission to the patient. “Even a call was made from Mantralaya to the hospital, but it did not yield any response,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, CM Fadnavis on Friday ordered the formation of a committee to inquire into the woman’s death. “CM Devendra Fadnavis has taken serious note of the incident of a woman’s death after being refused admission at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. He has ordered the formation of an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of the Joint Commissioner of Charity, Pune, to investigate the incident,” a statement from the CMO said.
