For the Shiv Jayanti celebrations on Wednesday, the Pune city traffic police have announced traffic diversions and road closures in the central part of the city to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety during the event.
The Pune City Traffic Police have implemented traffic diversions for key arterial roads in central parts of Pune on Wednesday in observance of Shiv Jayanti — the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Traffic on Nehru Road, Laxmi Road, Shivaji Road, and Bajirao Road will be redirected via alternative routes from 7 am on Wednesday until the conclusion of the processions held to commemorate the occasion.
The proactive measures aim to manage the influx of Punekars and participants expected to gather for the festivities on Wednesday. In accordance with the traffic diversion plan, key roads and intersections will be temporarily closed or rerouted to facilitate the movement of processions, gatherings, and other activities commemorating Shiv Jayanti.
Additionally, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses will take alternative routes to ensure that public transportation continues to run effectively.
Commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly and follow the instructions of traffic personnel deployed in the affected areas.
These traffic diversions will not apply to emergency services vehicles. An order in this regard was issued by the Pune City Police’s Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Amol Zende. Following are the traffic diversions and alternate routes.
Traffic diversion will take place from Wednesday at 6 am till the end of the procession on Nehru Road, Laxmi Road, Shivaji Road, and Bajirao Road.
Diverted routes
Traffic from Jijamata Chowk to Swargate via Shivaji Road will be diverted from SG Barwe Chowk, Jangali Maharaj Road, Khandojiaba Chowk, and Tilak Road after Jai Bharat, Jai Shivaji Padyatra. Traffic from Ganesh Road to Phadke Huad and Jijamata Chowk will be diverted via Daruwala Bridge. When the processions are on Laxmi Road, the traffic will be diverted via Sant Kabir Chowk and Samarth Division.
Traffic from Puram Chowk to Shivajinagar via Bajirao Road will be diverted from Puram Chowk, Tilak Road. Alka Talkies Chowk and Fergusson College Road. After the beginning of the processions, the traffic from Appa Balwant Chowk to Budhwar Chowk and Bajirao Road to Futka Buruj will be diverted via Kelkar Road.
Parking facilities will be available at Sangamwadi Parking, FC Ground, Parking in Nadipatra Parking, Agri College Ground for the people coming from respective areas beyond the facility.
Additionally, traffic changes will also be in place for ‘Jai Shivaji – Jai Bharat’ padyatra from 7 am to 2 pm. The route is COEP Ground, SG Barve Chowk, ASPMS College Shivaji Statue, SG Barve Chowk, Modern Chowk, Jhansi Rani Chowk, Khandoji Baba Chowk, Goodluck Chowk, FC Ground. For this, traffic will be altered on FC and JM Road from 7 am to 2 pm.
