A controversy has erupted over the memorial of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, hours before his last rites on Saturday. In political rhetoric, Congress accused BJP, after which BJP gave a befitting reply to Congress and said that at least dirty politics should not be played in the name of Manmohan Singh. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the possibility of building a memorial for Manmohan Singh where his last rites will be performed today.

“This is in line with the tradition of building memorials at the cremation grounds of politicians and former prime ministers,” Congress chief Kharge said. In a press release issued by the Central Government, it was said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that space will be set aside for the memorial of Dr. Manmohan Singh, during which the last rites and other formalities can proceed.

Congress made allegations, BJP replied

A senior Congress leader also immediately attacked the BJP, saying people were unable to understand why the Center could not find a site for the memorial, calling it an insult to India’s first Sikh Prime Minister.

On the issue of allotting space for the memorial of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Congress leader Rajesh Thakur said, ‘It is very sad and no politics should be done on this issue… It is condemnable that people who served the country Is. A small space is being allotted to the Prime Minister, he is not coming…”

Congress MP and party Punjab chief Amarinder Singh Raja Wedding said, “We are demanding the government to provide space for the memorial. If Atal Bihari Vajpayee can be given a place, then why not Manmohan Singh? He is the leader of the country.” He was the only Sikh Prime Minister…When the memorial is built, it will inspire future generations…”

On the allegations of Congress leaders, BJP said that Congress should stop dirty politics on the death of Dr. Singh. “Congress should remember how it treated former Prime Minister Narasimha Raoji after his death,” a party statement said.
