New Delhi: The Waqf Board case was heard in the Supreme Court today. Earlier, the case was also heard on Wednesday. Prior to the hearing, an important statement by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjeev Khanna has become a topic of discussion. He clearly said, “When we sit on the bench as a judge, our religion is no longer a Hindu or a Muslim. We only decide on the basis of legal arguments, without considering who is in power or who is in opposition.”

Hearing on petitions against Waqf Act

Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice K.V. The petitions filed against the Waqf Act 2025 are being heard before the bench of Justice Vishwanathan. Chief Justice Khanna reacted strongly to the example given by the central government in support of the inclusion of non-Muslim members in the Waqf Board.

“We strongly believe in secularism” – CJI Khanna

CJI Khanna said, “The issue of including non-Muslim members in the Waqf Board is sensitive. We keep religion separate while discharging our duties as a judge. It is not important for us who is the side, we only listen to the arguments and give the verdict. If religion is taken care of, then the Hindu judges should not be allowed to decide the Waqf. Is based on secularism. “

Court criticized some provisions of Waqf Act

The bench has questioned some provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which allow non-Muslim members to nominate the Central Waqf Council and the State Waqf boards. The petitions filed in this regard will be heard again today.

Immediate ban on Waqf Act rejected

In the hearing held yesterday, the Supreme Court refused to immediately stay the Waqf Act. However, the court has strongly objected to not notification of Waqf properties announced during the investigation by the District Magistrate, including non-Muslims in the Waqf Board and canceling the eligibility of Waqf properties.
