Aurangabad: City Police Launch Strict Drive Against Drunk Driving Ahead of New Year Celebrations |

Ahead of the New Year celebrations, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city police have initiated stern action against drunken drivers. A meeting of the city traffic police was held on Friday, during which the traffic branch was directed to conduct Nakabandi at various places in the city and take strict action against those driving vehicles after consuming alcohol and other narcotic drugs.

During Christmas and New Year, parties are held in various hotels and restaurants, where people drink and then drive, causing a severe risk of accidents for themselves and others. Hit-and-run cases are also on the rise across the state. In response, the police department has swung into alert mode and initiated a special drive against drunken drivers.

Drive implemented across city areas

The drive was implemented at various chowks in the city, with police officers from all five traffic wings, along with policemen from various police stations, deployed to ensure the drive was carried out effectively. On Saturday and Sunday, as many as 618 drivers were checked using breath analyzers, of which 69 were found to be drunk. Their vehicles were seized, and legal action was taken against them across the city areas.

The drive was carried out under the guidance of CP Pravin Pawar, DCP Sheelwant Nandedkar, and led by ACP Dhananjay Patil, PI Ashok Bhandare, Rajesh Mayekar, Amol Deokar, API Vivek Jadhav, and others.

CP Pawar stated that the drive would continue for the next few days. He urged people not to drink and drive in order to keep themselves and others safe from accidents ahead of new year’s eve.
