Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in the city as it is forecasted to receive heavy rainfall on Friday, November 29; due to that, the state government has declared a holiday for all schools in the city from class 1 to 12.

In addition to Chennai, heavy rains are expected in Ranipet, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Perambalur, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Nagapattinam and in Karaikal. Due to the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, Cyclone Fengal was formed, and it is forecasted to weaken before landfall in Karaikal and Mahabalipuram. The minimum and the maximum temperatures in the city are likely to range between 25 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius.

According to the IMD, overcast skies are predicted in the city, and it will likely remain the same throughout the day. The wind is predicted to blow steadily from the North at a speed of 27 km/h. The humidity is expected to range around 96 per cent.

Press Trust of India ( News Agency) has shared a video on X and wrote, ” Cyclone Fengal: The IMD has issued an advisory for fishermen across Tamil Nadu, urging them to avoid venturing into the sea until November 30 due to adverse weather conditions. Visuals are from Thoothukudi.”

Weather forecast for upcoming days

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in the city till December 1, 2024. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the coastal districts on Saturday, November 30. Along with Chennai, heavy rain is forecasted in Chengalpet, Nagapattina, Cuddalore, and Tiruvallur, due to which the weather department has advised to avoid wandering near river and sea regions,
