Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh): Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) district Mandsaur unit has submitted a memorandum to the Labor Commissioner, urging the implementation of revised minimum wages at increased rates.
The memorandum highlights that, after a decade, the revised minimum wages were set to take effect from April 2024.
However, due to the negligence of the Madhya Pradesh government and interference from certain industrialists, the implementation was stalled following a stay order.
The situation changed when CITU intervened, leading to the Madhya Pradesh High Court lifting the stay on December 3, 2024.
Despite this ruling, workers have yet to receive the revised wages, which CITU argues is illegal and a violation of court orders and workers’ rights.
Currently, approximately 2.5 million labourers in the state are deprived of their rightful earnings due to governmental inaction.
CITU’s memorandum calls for immediate action to ensure that minimum wages are paid to all categories of workers, including contract, permanent, temporary and daily wage employees across both private and government sectors. The organisation warns that if their demands are not met, they will escalate their agitation at the state level.
District general secretary Balu Singh presented the memorandum, which was attended by several other union leaders. It emphasised the urgent need for the government to uphold the rights of labourers in the state.
