CIDCO demolishes over 2,100 unauthorized structures in 2024, reclaiming 2 Lakh sq. meters of land in Navi Mumbai | Representative Image
Navi Mumbai: City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) takes strong action against unauthorized constructions in 2024 and has reportedly demolished 2,102 Structures and reclaimed over 2 Lakh sq. m. of area.
The department of Controller Unauthorized Constructions (CUC) (Navi Mumbai and NAINA) headed by Suresh Mengade, Chief Vigilance Officer, CIDCO has conducted demolition drives against the encroachments and unauthorized constructions in CIDCO’s jurisdiction in the year 2024 and demolished 2,102 structures and reclaimed the area of 2,06,431 sq. m.
“CIDCO regularly takes action against encroachments, unauthorized constructions raised in a well-planned city of Navi Mumbai which not only hinders the development of the city but also disfigures it,” CIDCO MD Vjay Singhal, said.
CIDCO had organized 547 demolition drives and demolished 2,102 encroachments and unauthorized constructions successfully during 302 drives. Among the demolished constructions were temporary structures, RCC structures, stalls etc.
Before the demolition drive, 2,160 notices were issued to the owners of encroachments/unauthorized constructions regarding demolishing the constructions under Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act (MRTP).
“During these drives, the senior police inspectors from police stations under the jurisdiction of Navi Mumbai Police provided adequate police protection from time to time,” Mengade, said.
“The projects like Navi Mumbai International Airport, Atal Setu (MTHL), Ulwe Coastal Road, Navi Mumbai Metro, CIDCO’s housing projects have been developed in Navi Mumbai area while other infrastructure projects are either underway or planned. As Navi Mumbai’s reputation grows internationally, the demolition drives ensure that encroachments and unauthorized constructions do not obstruct the city’s development,” Singhal added.
Apart from demolition drives the notices issued by the CIDCO to the owners of encroachments and unauthorized construction are published in newspapers from time to time to warn the citizens.
CIDCO also appeals citizens to carefully verify construction-related documents before purchasing a flat or shop in Navi Mumbai or the NAINA area to avoid any potential financial deception.
