Navi Mumbai: After a lot of hue and cry on social media about the increased prices of housing, Maharashtra Minister for Social Justice and CIDCO Chairman Sanjay Shirsat, has said that he would be trying to bring the prices down by meeting the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Minister of Housing and former chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Along with citizens, Congress Party too had objected to the high pricing of the houses under ‘my preferred Cidco house’ scheme citing that the rates offered by CIDCO are at par with that of the private builders. CIDCO announced a plan to build 26,000 homes, and as many as 1,20,000 citizens have applied for these homes.

The prices for these homes were recently announced, ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 97 lakh, depending on the area. The rates vary by region, with the lowest price of Rs 25 lakh for a 1 BHK in Taloja. However, the same 1 BHK in Vashi is priced at Rs 74 lakh.

In Vashi, a 1 BHK with a carpet area of 322 square feet is priced at Rs 74 lakh. Meanwhile, private builders in Vashi are offering similar 1 BHK apartments at Rs 70 to Rs 75 lakh per square meter. On the other hand, CIDCO’s price rate works out to Rs 22,000 per square meter, which is far beyond the budget of the common man, claimed citizens.

“Families are expanding and hence I would take up the issue of relaxing the rule of having only one house in Navi Mumbai along with getting the prices down,” Shirsat said, adding, “Cidco housing is for common people and the prices too needs to be accordingly affordable.”
