According to Xinhua news agency, China is going to build the world’s largest dam, he said that this project will play an important role in achieving China’s main objectives. However, experts are worried that this project, which is going to be started in the Tibetan Plateau, may have an impact on the environment.
China has approved the construction of the world’s largest hydroelectric dam. China is about to start its ambitious project in the eastern part of the Tibetan Plateau. This may affect millions of people in India and Bangladesh.
According to information provided by China Power Construction Corporation in 2020, the dam being built on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zhangbo River will have the capacity to generate 300 billion KWH of electricity annually.
China will build the world’s largest dam!
Currently, the world’s largest Three Gorges Dam built in Central China has a capacity of 88.2 billion KWH, which means China’s new dam will have 3 times this capacity.
According to Xinhua News Agency, this project will play an important role in achieving China’s key objectives. The project will help meet China’s carbon peak and carbon neutrality targets as well as boost industries such as engineering and create employment opportunities in Tibet.
One section of the Yarlung Zangbo lies at an altitude of 2,000 m (6,561 ft) over a short distance of 50 km (31 mi), offering huge hydropower potential as well as difficult engineering challenges.
Dam will be built at a cost of Rs 3 thousand billion
The construction of this dam will cost 34.83 billion dollars (about Rs 3000 billion), which also includes the rehabilitation of 14 lakh people displaced by the dam. However, officials have not yet said how many people the project will displace in Tibet and what impact it will have on the local environment of the world’s richest and most diverse plateau.
India-Bangladesh expressed concern
According to Chinese officials, Tibet’s hydropower project, which accounts for more than a third of China’s hydropower capacity, will have no significant environmental impact and will not disrupt water supplies. However, India and Bangladesh are continuously expressing concern about this dam. There are fears that the project may affect not only the local ecology but also the flow of the river. The Yarlung Zangbo River, known as the Brahmaputra, originates in Tibet and flows south through the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam towards Bangladesh. China has already begun hydropower production on the upper reaches of this river, which flows from west to east through Tibet.
Will the dam affect the Earth’s movement?
According to the report, China’s ban can have many disastrous consequences. Scientists say that these dams will not only harm the environment but will also cause earthquakes and floods. NASA scientist Benjamin Fong Chao raised many questions regarding China’s Three Gorges Dam. He claimed that this closure could affect the speed of Earth’s rotation as well as the position of the planet. Now that China is building a dam with three times the capacity of the Three Gorges Dam, its impact could be even greater.
