Earlier, children used to laugh in the streets. Complaints of window glass breaking were common while playing cricket. Some used to run with a bell, while some were seen standing at the door to ask for the cork of badminton. Sports such as Kho-Kho, Vish-Amrit, and Ball Thadi were part of childhood. But now all these have become like the past.
Now Carrom and Ludo are also played on mobile screens, not on the real board, and digital Ludo is engaged in teaching betting. The world has moved forward rapidly, and now a six -inch screen has come in every hand, which has become a new world window. But the question arises whether every change is correct?
India is the youngest country in the world, but the recent report states that 80% of the youth are victims of mobile addiction. According to a survey, 76% of teenagers use mobile to watch social media and short videos. Not only this, an average of 8.5 hours of youth passes in front of the screen. Is this not a matter of concern?
If you also want to keep your child away from mobile addiction, then you have to change your strategy. Nothing will be done only by scolding, but some practical changes are necessary.
1) Apply the rules first to yourself
You want your child to leave the mobile and play outside or pay attention to studies, but have you ever noticed yourself?
Psychiatrist Dr. Smita Srivastava says that children learn what they see their parents doing.
If you want to keep the child away from mobile, then reduce your screen time first.
Limit the use of mobile in front of children, so that they themselves also distance them away from the screen.
Try to promote real games at home, such as board games, badminton, or cricket.
2) Teach children the correct use of screen
Every technique has both advantages and disadvantages. If social media and digital world are used properly, it can be very useful for learning and development.
Explain to the children that:
-
It is better to learn online skills than wasting time on short video and social media.
-
Use online courses, skill development, and e-learning platforms.
-
Mixing TV and mobile screen time, it is considered only 2-2.5 hours a day.
-
Use the gadgets limited and wisely, so that they can use it correctly in the future.
3) Control social media
Most teenagers and young spend hours on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. But now social media platforms are also bringing new features to stop digital addiction.
Social media platforms have launched some new features:
Brake Reminder: When someone scrolls longer, this feature reminds that it is time to take the break.
Hyde Like & View Count: This feature prevents children from being affected by the number of likes and views, so that they do not fall prey to inferiority complex.
Kindness Reminder: When an unknown person messages to your child, social media sends platform alerts.
Hyde feature: This can hide unwanted and wrong videos, so that children do not watch the wrong content.
Set the daily limit: You can set the limit of screen time on the child’s mobile, so that the apps are closed themselves when used.
Also set the data usage limit, so that the internet usage is also controlled.
4) Make rules at home and follow them
Old people used to give great importance to discipline. This discipline should also apply at home.
Discipline should not only be limited to eating, gold and studies, but also apply on screen time.
All members of the house should follow it.
Parents themselves should also be in discipline so that children can be motivated.
