In the politics of Chhattisgarh, the Jogi family is facing tough challenges this time in the assembly elections. To preserve the political legacy of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, his wife Renu Jogi, daughter-in-law Richa Jogi and son Amit Jogi have come to try their luck in the election field. In the election battle of Chhattisgarh between Congress and BJP, the path is not easy for Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) this time. In such a situation, it remains to be seen how the Jogi family is able to preserve its political existence.

Let us tell you that Ajit Jogi had rebelled against Congress in 2016 and formed his own separate party ‘Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi)’, whereas at one time he used to be the face of Congress in the state. When Congress sidelined him, he formed his own party, but he died in 2020. After Ajit Jogi, his political legacy is now being handled by his son Amit Jogi and wife Renu Jogi. This time, three members of the Jogi family have contested the elections.

Who is contesting assembly elections from which seat?

Ajit Jogi’s wife and sitting MLA Renu Jogi is trying her luck once again from Kota seat, while her daughter-in-law Richa Jogi has been given ticket from Akaltara seat. Whereas son Amit Jogi has contested against Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Patan seat. In this way, three members of the Jogi family are contesting the elections, whereas in 2018 there were four people including Ajit Jogi, out of which only two members could win. Ajit Jogi and his wife Renu Jogi. Amit Jogi and Richa Jogi could not win the elections.

Ajit Jogi’s party had fought the 2018 assembly elections in alliance with BSP. Despite this, Ajit Jogi could not influence the election results. Jogi’s party was successful in winning five seats and its ally BSP was successful in winning two seats. Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) party got 7.6 percent vote share. Amit Jogi lost from Manendragarh and Richa Jogi from Akaltara seat.

Amit Jogi decided to contest elections alone

In the by-elections held after the death of Ajit Jogi and Devvrat Singh, JCC (Jogi) had lost two assembly constituencies, Marwahi and Khairagarh. The party had expelled two other MLAs Dharamjit Singh and Pramod Sharma, due to which Ajit Jogi’s wife Renu Jogi is the only MLA of the party. This time in the assembly elections, Amit Jogi, who is carrying on the legacy of Ajit Jogi, has decided to contest the elections alone instead of forging an alliance with any party, but due to the narrow contest between Congress and BJP, he is facing difficulties.

Renu Jogi has become MLA from Kota Assembly seat by contesting elections thrice on Congress ticket (2006 by-election, 2008 and 2013) and once in 2018 on JCC (J) ticket. This time on Kota seat, BJP has made Prabal Pratap Singh Judev, son of senior leader Dilip Singh Judev, and Congress has made Chhattisgarh Tourism Board Chairman Atal Srivastava its candidate.

How will Amit Jogi save the political existence of Jogi family?

At the same time, Richa Jogi, wife of party president and Ajit Jogi’s son Amit Jogi, had contested the last election from Akaltara on JCC (J) ticket, but she lost. Once again the party has fielded him, against whom BJP has placed a bet on its sitting MLA Saurabh Singh. Amit Jogi is trying his luck from Patan seat, facing Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. BJP MP Vijay Baghel is in the fray from Patan seat. In this way, Amit Jogi is surrounded in a triangular contest. In such a situation, it remains to be seen how he is able to save the political existence of the Jogi family.
