Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Former chief minister Uma Bharti has said that the check post scam is bigger than Vyapam rip-off.

Her statement came on the heels of raids conducted on the residential premises of former constable of the Transport Department Saurabh Sharma.

If a constable can make assets worth Rs 1,000 crore, it is imaginable the amount the assets the officers and politicians have made from the Transport Department, she said.

During her tenure as chief minister, discussion over closure of check posts began, Uma said. She said that she had spoken to the then chief minister of Gujarat and present Prime Minister Narendra Modi about it.

But because of her removal from position the chief minister, the process for closing the check posts was swept under the carpet, and afterwards, corruption continued sap the department, she said.

Sharma is just a Kechua a (little squirt), but Ajgars (big fish) are yet to be caught, Uma said. If corruption is controlled at check posts, the loss to state exchequer due to ban on sale of liquor can be met up, Uma said.

Delay in Ken-Betwa project caused loss of crores of rupees

Uma Bharti said that discussions over the Ken-Betwa project began in 2004, but after the formation of the UPA government, talks over the issue stopped. The project could have been carried out earlier, but the officers threw a spanner in it, and because of the delay, the cost of the project has shot up, so the government had to incur a heavy loss, she said.

Importance of individual ends, organisation is all

In the BJP’s MP unit, the importance of an individual has come to an end, and the organisation is the real leader, Uma said. A man sitting in the back row is made the chief minister, she said, adding that else, people want to stick to their position forever.
