In the Champions Trophy 2025, the journey of the Pakistan cricket team ended disappointing. His hopes of reaching the semi -finals after a crushing defeat against New Zealand and India in their first two matches were almost over. Eventually, after New Zealand’s victory over Bangladesh, it was officially decided that the host Pakistan had dropped out of the tournament.
But the question arises as to why Pakistan had such a poor performance? In a recent report, the major reason for this failure has been explained the cracks inside the team and differences between the captain and the coach.

Real reason for Pakistan’s defeat: controversy within team
According to a report by ‘Cricket Pakistan’, there is a growing distance between team captain Mohammad Rizwan and head coach Aqib Javed at the root of Pakistan’s poor performance.
The reports quoting sources claim that there was a lack of coordination in the team while taking important decisions. Giving an example, the report said,
“Mohammad Rizwan wanted Khushdil Shah to be included in the playing XI, but head coach Aqib Javed chose Faheem Ashraf, ignoring his opinion.”
It is a clear indication that there were serious differences about the selection process within the team, which negatively impacted the team’s performance.
PCB chairman’s suggestion was also ignored
The report has also revealed that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi had recommended some changes in the team before the tournament. But his advice was ignored. However, the board chairman did not interfere in the matter, as he did not want to interfere in the team selection matters.
But Pakistan had to bear the brunt of this decision of PCB, as the team failed to save the Champions Trophy title on their home grounds due to poor strategy and internal feud.
