Bangladesh cricket team’s ICC Champions Trophy journey 2025 has ended. The team was eliminated from the top-4 race after losing to India and now New Zealand.
Captain Najmul Hussain Shantio expressed displeasure over the team’s failure and especially took on the batsmen and fielders. He said that the team is failing to score 300+ runs continuously, which reduces the chances of victory.
Difficulty in scoring 236 runs, New Zealand easily achieved target
- Bangladesh scored just 236 against New Zealand, while the pitch was considered good for batting.
- New Zealand easily achieved this target, which exposed Bangladesh’s weak batting and fielding.
- Shot selection was bad, too much dot ball was played, there was no concrete strategy against spinners, and Bangladesh’s batting flop was due to losing wickets at the wrong time.
Although captain Shanto scored 77 runs in 110 balls and Zakir Ali scored 45 runs, but the rest of the batsmen performed disappointing.
“Improvement in batting and fielding is necessary” – Shantio
In the post-match press conference, captain Najmul Hussain Shanto said-
“This is truly disappointing as a captain. We need to improve a lot in batting and fielding. We repeatedly repeated the same mistakes. We have to focus on improving our batting. After this tournament, we have to make some changes in batting and think about new strategies. ”
When asked what kind of changes he wanted, he made it clear that the players will not change in the team, but it is necessary to change their thinking and preparation.
“I am not talking about changing the players, but we need to change our mindset and working style. You have to take more responsibility while batting, so that the team can get better contribution. ”
“We can’t score 300 runs every day, it has to be changed”
Shanto admitted that Bangladesh team is failing to score 300+ runs regularly, which is a big weakness in ODI cricket.
“It is the truth that we are unable to score 300 runs in every match. We have to accept it. We have to make a habit that the score of 300+ should not be made only occasionally, but continuously. For this, we have to practice more, play on good pitches, and score against big teams. ”
Bangladesh continues poor form in ODIs
- Bangladesh played 23 ODIs since the 2023 ODI World Cup, but only scored 300+.
- The team is constantly doing a weak performance in batting and fielding, due to which it is facing defeat in big matches.
Now what next?
Bangladesh will now have to focus on improving its weaknesses. It is clear from the statement of Captain Shantio that the team needs to change its strategy and mindset. If Bangladesh has to become a strong team in ODI cricket, then they have to make a habit of scoring runs and make their batting more aggressive.
