The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday claimed that they had benefited about US $ 10 million (about 3 billion Pakistani rupees) by hosting the Champions Trophy 2025.
PCB spokesperson Aamir Mir and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Javed Murtaza addressed the media and dismissed reports that the board had suffered heavy financial losses due to hosting ODI tournament and upgradation of stadiums.
PCB got big economic benefits
- Aamir Mir said, “All the expenses of the tournament were borne by the ICC, while PCB earned good revenue from gate money and ticket sales. After the audit we expect to get Rs 3 billion more from ICC.”
- PCB has crossed the revenue target of Rs 2 billion and now their total revenue has reached Rs 10 billion, which is 40% higher than last year.
- He also said that PCB has now joined the three richest cricket boards in the world and has also paid a tax of 40 million rupees.
Stadium upgrade and investment
PCB’s CFO Javed Murtaza said that the board had kept a budget of Rs 18 billion for upgradation of Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi stadiums, out of which Rs 12 billion was allocated under the first phase and Rs 10.5 billion has already been spent.
Describing the role of PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi as important, he said that his strategy has strengthened the financial performance of the board.
India becomes champion, Pakistan benefited
The Champions Trophy 2025 was held in Pakistan, in which Team India managed to become the winner after 12 years. Although Pakistan failed to win the tournament, it proved to be financially beneficial for PCB.
