New Delhi: As the air quality in Delhi and surrounding areas improved, pollution curbs were eased to stage 2 of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the national capital region. The decision in this reegard was taken by the Commission for Air Quality Management on Friday. Notably, Delhi-NCR witnessed a declining trend in the pollution levels over the past 24 hours.
As of 7 pm on Friday, the average air quality index (AQI) stood at 324. On Tuesday, the Centre’s panel for monitoring air quality revoked GRAP-IV measures in Delhi-NCR as pollution level decreased in the region. As per the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, the air quality in Delhi and its adjoining regions is expected to improve.
What GRAP-2 Restrictions Mean for Delhi-NCR Residents?
Under GRAP-2 restrictions, the use of diesel generators will not be permitted except for emergency services. Dust-generating construction activities will also not be allowed. To discourage the use of private vehicles with the aim to control air pollution, vehicle parking fees will be enhanced under the stage 2 restrictions of GRAP and residents are advised to use public transport. People should avoid the burning of solid waste.
People are requested to take less congested routes even if it is slightly longer. They are also advised to regularly replace thjeir air filters.
Meanwhile, under GRAP-2, authorities are directed to strictly enforce dust-control measures. They are required to sprinkle water and use dust suppressants on roads during peak hours.
