Central Railway celebrated 100 years of Railway Electrification with great enthusiasm on 3rd February 2025. To commemorate this milestone, a series of events were organised including an exhibition showcasing the evolution of electric traction—spanning the past, present, and a glimpse into the future.

Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager, Central Railway who was welcomed in the traditional style of Maharashtra, with rhythmic beats of Lezim, a folk dance of Maharashtra, inaugurated the exhibition in presence of the Additional General Manager, Principal Head of Departments and Officers of Central Railway.

The exhibition titled “100 years of Railway Electrification” organized at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), from 03.02.2025 to 13.02.2025, registered a mammoth response of over 15 lakh visitors. This included 69,220 people registering their names in the Visitors book and 16,180 visitors giving feedback.

February 8th (Saturday) and February 9th (Sunday), being weekend days saw an incredible no of 2.10 lakh and 1.80 lakh visitors respectively

The exhibition featured informative display boards, a short film, miniature working models, and various exhibits highlighting technological advancements.

The exhibits included:

• Display of diamond pantograph.

• Display of working model of WCM5.

• Exhibit of old display of EMU indicators.

• Model of working of 25KV AC OHE system.

• Original wheel disc of first electric loco EA1 (WCP1) with display of information and details.

• Maintenance manuals, inspection notes, loco books under display of heritage manuals.

• Display screens of journey of electric locomotives.

• Models of various class of EMU coaches.

• Overview of DC system.

• BHEL in rail transporation display board.

• Vintage items display of various old electrical related devices.

• Workings of a push pull train.

• Models of various miniature electric locos.

Daily passengers, Office goers, Businessmen, Passengers having come to board mail/express trains, School and College students, Tourists-both Indian and Foreign, Railway staff, Railway enthusiasts and Rail Fans were among those who visited the exhibition.

The exhibition also saw a number of media persons from the print, electronic and digital media along with a good number of Youtubers

Many people visited the exhibition more than once having brought their families and friends to visit the exhibition a second time.

A visit to the exhibition was a trip down memory lane and a chance for all the commuters to relive the good old days virtually in it.

It was truly an experience of a lifetime.
