The Central Government has approved the purchase of Tur, Urad and Masor under the price support scheme (PSS) for the year 2024-25 to increase domestic production of pulses, encourage farmers and reduce dependence on imports.
The production of tur dal in the country is estimated to be 35.11 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, while in 2023-24 it will be 33.85 lakh tonnes. In the year 2024-25, the production of lentils is estimated at 18.17 lakh tonnes and gram is estimated at 11.535 lakh tonnes.

Last month, the Central Government approved the purchase of 1.322 lakh tonnes tur. In Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana, the purchase of tur on MSP is going on through NAFED and NCCF. A total of 3.92 lakh metric tonnes of tur in these states have been purchased in the year 2024-25 in the year 2024-25.
Due to which 2,56,517 farmers of these states have benefited. Turmeric is procured from pre-registrated farmers on NAFED’s e-prosperity portal and NCCF’s e-exploitation portal. Apart from Turi, the central government has approved the government procurement of 9.40 lakh tonnes of lentils and 1.35 lakh tonnes of Urad Dal.
Turmeric procurement duration was extended in Andhra Pradesh
The central government has provided great relief to the tur farmers of Andhra Pradesh. In the interest of farmers, the government has extended the purchase period by 30 days in Andhra Pradesh. Now Urad can be procured in Andhra Pradesh by 22 May. Earlier, the government had extended the duration of tur procurement in Karnataka to 30 days to May 1.
The central government had announced in the 2025 budget that 100 percent of the arhar, urad and lentils of the state will be purchased through NEFED and NCCF by the next four years to achieve self-sufficiency in pulses in the country by 2028-29.
The central government has targeted to increase domestic production to become self -sufficient in grain production. For this, the government started the Integrated Prime Minister Food Safety Initiative (PM-Asha) campaign. Through this scheme, pulses, oilseeds and coconut will be procured at guaranteed prices.
