Despite the arrangement to avoid direct contact between the taxpayer and the Income Tax Officer in the faceless evaluation of income tax returns CBI officials have raided the locations of two Deputy Commissioners, two inspectors and five chartered accountants on charges of doing.

Among those who prepared the path of fraud in the faceless assessment of income tax returns, Vijayendra R, two inspectors of Mumbai, Dinesh Verma and Binayak Sharma, Delhi’s Chartered Accountant Malik Girish Anand, Sushil Kumar, Mumbai’s Chartered Accountant Shivratan Mangalal Sigrodia and Bhavesh Purushottam Rahulia and Chartered Accountant Prateek Lenin in Kottai, Kerala and Dinesh Kumar Aggarwal in Delhi. The CBI said in a press release that all these houses were raided on 6 February.

The central government introduced the faceless assessment system in 2019. In this system, to avoid the need to meet the taxpayer to the officer, the return of the taxpayer of Ahmedabad was given to the tax assessment officer of Patna or an officer of any other part of the country.

The names of taxpayers were being leaked with the connivance of the officials. The CBI, especially in the cases of taxpayers, raided the cases who declared a large tax demands by declaring high amounts as taxable. The names of taxpayers were leaked in appeal cases and high-profile evaluation cases.
