The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched an investigation against a Senior Statistical Officer from the National Statistical Survey Office at Belapur, Navi Mumbai in a graft case.
According to the CBI sources, a complaint dated 10.02.2025 of a Parel resident who is engaged in manufacturing of plastics files and folders had been received.
It is alleged in the complaint that, complainant has received total 09 notices on different dates of dated 01.10.2024, 26.11.2024 and 24.12.2024 regarding to file Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) Returns of his companies from National Sample Survey Office.
As per the complaint, on 27.01.2025 after filing the return, public servant Shankar Raghorte met with complainant and informed him that the return has been filed for two of his companies. While handing him the visit report for the two companies Raghorte allegedly made a demand for a bribe of Rs. 10,000 for helping him to file the return for both companies.
The verification of the complaint has been conducted on 10.02.2025 and during verification it is revealed that Raghorte from NSSO demanded bribe of Rs.10,000 from complainant for filing the return of two companies. Raghorte, allegedly demanded bribe amount through online transaction on the mobile number of his relative and asked the complainant to transfer the bribe amount on the said number.
A case has been registered against Raghorte under the relevant section of Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused was arrested and produced before the court on Tuesday. He has been remanded to CBI custody till Wednesday by the court.
