Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday dropped 65 names from the list of 125 witnesses which are supposed to be examined in the ongoing trial of Sheena Bora murder case. She was allegedly killed by her mother and prime accused Indrani Mukerjea, ex-wife of media baron and co-accused Peter Mukerjea.

Shabnam Singh, who is also Peter’s former wife, has also been dropped from the list. However, Vidhie, daughter of Indrani, was not excluded. The former could be likely examined soon as the trial is being held on a day-to-day basis.

The examination of Vidhie as prosecution witness is crucial as Indrani has time and again sought clarity from the CBI on her status. She said that she was keen to stay with her daughter as soon as possible. The agency had earlier indicated that they may drop Vidhie from the witness list, but had kept the option open for future.

Now, it seems that Indrani will have to wait for a long time to be with her daughter. Vidhie may prove to be a crucial witness as she was a key link between Bora and Indrani. She was apparently aware about Indrani’s reservation for Sheena and Peter’s son Rahul’s relation.

Bora was allegedly strangled to death in a car by her mother Indrani, her then driver Shyamvar Rai (who later turned approver in the case) and Khanna in April 2012. Her body was burnt and disposed of at a forest in nearby Raigad, as per police.

The murder came to light in 2015 after Rai spilled the beans about the murder following his arrest in another case. Indrani and Khanna were arrested in August 2015, while Peter was arrested three months later. All the accused are currently out on bail.
