The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two accused, including a Senior General Manager (Sr. GM) of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), a central PSU, and a Deputy General Manager (DGM) of a Mumbai-based private company, immediately after the exchange of a bribe of ₹2.4 lakh. The bribe was allegedly paid by the DGM of the private company to the Sr. GM of PGCIL in exchange for undue favors in processing and passing bills related to contracts awarded to the private company by the PSU.

Those arrested have been identified as Uday Kumar, Sr. GM of PGCIL, Ajmer, Rajasthan, and Suman Singh, Deputy General Manager of M/s KEC International Ltd. (KECIL).

A case was registered by the CBI on March 19, 2025, against six accused, including the Sr. General Manager of PGCIL posted at Ajmer, a Mumbai-based private company, four representatives of the said private company, and unknown others.

“It was alleged that the accused public servant of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., while acting in connivance with the accused representatives of the private company, was facilitating and extending undue favors in processing and passing bills related to contracts awarded to the private company by PGCIL, in exchange for illegal gratification. It was also alleged that after negotiation, the accused representative of the private company decided to meet the accused public servant at a fixed place in Sikar for the delivery of the bribe amount on March 19, 2025,” said a CBI official.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Sr. General Manager of PGCIL red-handed immediately after he accepted the bribe amount of ₹2.4 lakh from the accused DGM of the private company. Both accused were arrested, officials informed on Friday.

Searches are being conducted by the CBI at the residential and official premises of the accused in Sikar, Jaipur, and Mohali, leading to the recovery of several incriminating documents and digital devices.
