Caste Census: Kharge’s letter to PM Modi on caste census, three important suggestions given

News India Live, Digital Desk: Caste Census: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, giving three important suggestions regarding caste census. Kharge welcomed the decision of caste -based calculation in the upcoming census announced by the government in the letter, but also demanded some important changes in it.

Suggestion to follow Telangana model

Kharge suggested in the letter that the Ministry of Home Affairs should follow the ‘Telangana Model’ while preparing the questionnaire of the upcoming caste census. He says that the design of the questionnaire is quite important and the process of finalizing it should be completely transparent and wider.

Demand to remove 50 percent reservation limit

In addition, Kharge demanded the removal of the current limit of 50 percent reservation through the Constitution Amendment. He said that this limit applied to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBC) is arbitrary and impractical. Social justice should be ensured by removing it.

Immediate implementation of Article 15 (5)

Kharge also demanded to implement reservation for SC, ST and OBC in private educational institutions with immediate effect. For this, he emphasized the immediate implementation of Article 15 (5) of the Constitution, which was valid by the Supreme Court in January 2014.

Caste census is not divisive, means of social justice

Kharge also clarified in his letter that caste census should not be considered divisive. He said that this process will provide justice to the backward, oppressed and marginalized sections of the society and strengthen social unity.

Demand for discussion with all political parties

The Congress President also appealed to Prime Minister Modi to discuss the issue with all political parties soon through the letter. He hoped that his suggestions would be seriously considered.
