Caste Census India: BJP’s strategic trick on caste census: New strategic strategies to Mandal-Center

News India Live, Digital Desk: Till now the BJP has been protesting with the slogan of “cut to cuts” on the demand for caste census. The priority of the BJP was to unite the castes under the umbrella of Hindutva, but suddenly it has surprised everyone by deciding to conduct caste census. The immediate reason for this is the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, where Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi wanted to make it a big election issue. However, deeply, this decision seems to be the result of BJP’s internal thinking, which had started after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP began to feel that the politics of ‘Kamandal’ i.e. Hindutva has now reached its peak, and now it is necessary to pay attention to ‘Mandal’ i.e. caste politics.

The issue of Ram temple has achieved its goal. In North India, BJP has reached its peak on the issue of Hindutva. But during the Lok Sabha elections in UP, the PDA card of Congress and Akhilesh Yadav was successful, which led to the BJP behind. The election results were not favorable for the BJP due to the Maratha movement in Maharashtra. Therefore, in the November assembly elections, the BJP adopted the strategy of “cut to cut it”.

This is a clear indication that the BJP wants to cultivate Hinduism as well as caste politics i.e. ‘Mandal’. The issue on which the opposition wants to do politics, BJP already wants to take it under its control. Now there is a plan to run the politics of Mandal and Kamandal, not separately, but together.

Question of upper caste voters

After this decision, it is believed that the traditional voters of the BJP, the upper castes, may be angry with it. But the BJP had already made arrangements to keep them together by giving 10 percent reservation (EWS) on an economic basis for the upper castes. Therefore, the displeasure of upper caste voters will not affect much.

Impact on North-South delimitation dispute

The states of South India have been continuously raising the issue of population -based delimitation. This dispute can calm down by caste census. At present, the 1931 census is the basis for the caste population. There will be a significant increase in OBC number in North India in the new caste census, which will raise the demand to increase their seats. This may end the delimitation dispute of the north-south.

RSS thinking

The Sangh has clarified that it has no objection to caste census, but should not be used political. The union believes that due to caste data, the government can provide the benefits of schemes to the real beneficiaries properly. That is why the Sangh also does not oppose this decision.
