Caste Census: The central government made a big announcement on Wednesday and said that caste census will be done in the country. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the cabinet meeting, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in briefing that along with the national census, caste census will also be conducted. Vaishnav said that caste census will also be done in the census itself. The central government on Wednesday announced that caste data would also be included in the upcoming census.
At the same time, Ashwini Vaishnav accused the opposition of using the caste survey for political gains. This decision was taken in the meeting of the Central Political Affairs Committee (CCPA) held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in the cabinet briefing today, “The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs has decided today that caste census should be included in the next census.”
Vaishnav said that the caste survey conducted in many states was “unscientific”. Several states including NDA -ruled Bihar have already published the figures of caste census. In 2022, under the then Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government, Bihar became the first state to successfully calculate all castes in independent India.
Significantly, the last caste census took place in 1931. After 94 years, caste -based census will be conducted across the country. For the first time in independent India, the central government will conduct caste census.
Decision to increase sugarcane FRP
Along with this, sugarcane FRP in cabinet meeting (Proper and beneficial price) It has been decided to increase Rs 15 per quintal. Currently, the FRP of sugarcane is Rs 340 per quintal at 10.25 percent recovery. This increase in FRP has been made for 2025-26 (October-September).
