Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Gunga police on Tuesday night seized 20 cartons of illicit liquor from a car. The driver of the vehicle fled from the spot and search has been launched to trace and arrest him, police officials said.
SP Bhopal (rural) Pramod Kumar Sinha said a police team was patrolling the area on Rangpanchami when it received a tip off that a car carrying illicit liquor was speeding towards Berasia.
TI Gunga Harishankar Verma and his team installed barricades at Imla police outpost. However, the car driver hit the barricades and tried to flee. Police team gave chase to the car following which he stopped the car a few hundred metres ahead and escaped in the forest leaving the vehicle behind. Police team found 18 cartons of illicit country liquor and 2 cartons of English liquor worth Rs 1.06 lakh inside the car.
The vehicle, without registration number plate, estimated to be worth Rs 5 lakh was also seized by cops. An FIR has been registered under the Excise act in this connection.
