New Delhi: Canada is yet to officially condemned or issue any statement on the terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday, which killed 28 people. Even neighboring Pakistan, China and Taliban have officially condemned the terror attack but Canada has remained silent.

However, Canada’s opposition leader, Pierre Poilievre, took to micro-blogging website X to call out the horrific terrorist attack. “I condemn in the strongest terms the horrific terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that took the lives of innocent civilians, including tourists and families. Our hearts are with the victims, their loved ones, and all those affected. Canada stands united against terror in all its forms,” Poilievre wrote on X.

Canada is the only G-7 nation to have remained silent on the attack. Here is what other G-7 countries have said.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack and extended his condolences to the families of the victims.

“A heinous attack has struck India, claiming the lives of dozens of men and women from all walks of life. We share the profound sorrow of the victims’ families, to whom I extend my heartfelt condolences,” he said.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the people of India,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wrote in a post on X.

Italian Prime Minister Meloni said she was “deeply saddened” by the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and expressed solidarity with the affected families, the injured, the government, and the entire Indian people.

Japan

Ishiba Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan said, “Dear H.E. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I cannot help but feel great shock and anger regarding the large number of casualties caused by the terrorist attack carried out yesterday in Kashmir. I resolutely condemn such a vicious attack. On behalf of the Japanese government and people, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to those who lost their lives and their bereaved families, and express my heartfelt sympathy to those who were injured. I express my heartfelt solidarity to the people of India in the process of overcoming this difficult time. Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason. Japan strongly condemns all forms of terrorism. Japan is firmly committed to combatting terrorism in cooperation with India and the international community.”

United Kingdom

British PM Keir Starmer said that the horrific terrorist attack in Kashmir was “utterly devastating.” “My thoughts are with those affected, their loved ones, and the people of India,” he added in a post on micro-blogging website X.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!”

In a post on X, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas also condemned the attack.

“I condemn today’s heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed many innocent lives. Our deep condolences go to the victims, their families and the people of India. The EU stands firm against terrorism.”
