Indian equity market rose for the fifth straight session today, with Sensex and Nifty hitting two-month highs led by IT and banking stocks, on expectations that the RBI will add liquidity to the CRR tomorrow on continued foreign fund inflows. RBI will increase liquidity tomorrow. Nifty IT index hit new intraday high of 45,027 today led by TCS, Infosys and LTI Mindtree.

After initially opening 226 points higher, the Sensex traded with minor fluctuations till 12 noon, but then suddenly gained momentum and remained bullish till the end of the day. During intraday, Sensex made a high of 82,317 and a low of 80,467. Thus, a total fluctuation of 1,850 points was seen in the intra-day Sensex and finally the Sensex closed at 81,765, up by 809 points or 1 percent from 81,000. The Sensex also crossed the 82,000 mark intra-day. Sensex closed 1,298 points above intraday low. Nifty also opened 72 points higher in the beginning and intra-day Nifty made a high of 24,857 and a low of 24,295. Thus, after a total fluctuation of 562 points, Nifty finally closed at 24,708 with an increase of 240 points or 0.98 percent. Nifty closed 413 points above the low.

However, in the broader market, mid-cap and small-cap stocks underperformed today. The BSE Mid-Cap index today closed 128 points or 0.27 per cent higher at 47,500, while the BSE Small-Cap index closed just 90 points or 0.16 per cent higher at 56,707. The BSE SME IPO index witnessed significant gains for the third consecutive day today and closed at 1,05,832, up 1,241 points or 1.19 per cent.

Of the total 4,083 shares traded on BSE today, 2,130 rose, 1,841 declined and 112 shares closed flat. BSE M cap today increased to Rs. 458.17 lakh crore i.e. 5.41 trillion dollars i.e. Rs 455.66 lakh crore from yesterday’s figure. An increase of Rs 2.51 lakh crore is visible. Today, 27 out of 30 Sensex stocks closed with gains while 41 out of 50 Nifty stocks closed with gains. 3.31 percent in Trent, 2.39 percent in TCS, 2.33 percent in Infosys, 2.23 percent in Titan and Dr. Reddy’s Lab gained 2.18 per cent, while SBI Life closed 1.21 per cent, HDFC Life 1.09 per cent, Bajaj Auto 1.05 per cent and NTPC 0.98 per cent lower. The volatility index closed 0.53 percent higher at 14.53 today. Of the 14 sector indices on Nifty, only Nifty Realty index closed down by 0.25 per cent and PSU Bank fell by 0.12 per cent. Nifty Media closed flat on top, while Nifty IT gained 1.95 per cent.

In the four sessions of December alone, FIIs lost Rs. Net profit of Rs 13,762 crore

Today, for the fourth consecutive session, FII laid its trap. Today the net borrowing figure of FIIs is Rs. 8,539 crore, against which DIIA Rs. Net sales Rs 2,303 crore. Along with this, the figure of net borrowing of FIIs in the four sessions of December itself was Rs. 13,762 crore, while DII spent only Rs. 13,762 crore in these four sessions. Took a net of Rs 134 crore.
