Drought in the primary market is unlikely to end soon, but preparations for IPOs by various companies in India are going on in full swing. After not launching a single IPO in March, about 14 companies have filed their draft Red Heering Prospectus (DRHP) with SEBI in the last four days.

 

With the passage of 31 March set by SEBI to submit a proposal for IPOs with audited results for the quarter ended September 30, 2024, various companies are in vying to submit such proposals. Currently, a total of 52 companies have been approved by SEBI to bring IPOs and other 65 companies have submitted proposals for the IPO to seek SEBI approval.

In October, the Indian stock market entered the recession, the perception of investors deteriorated and the performance of companies listed in the last one year was weak, causing lethargy in the country’s primary market since February and not a single IPO was launched in March. Due to this situation, many companies have postponed their IPO schemes at present, even if they have been approved. So far in 2025, only 9 companies have raised a total of Rs 1,000 crore by launching IPOs. 15,723 crore was raised, while a total of 57 companies raised a total of Rs 15,723 crore. In 2024, Rs 15,723 crore was raised through IPO in 2024 throughout the year. A fund of Rs 1.6 lakh crore was raised.

The highest number of 41 DRHPs were filed in September 2024.

After the Indian stock market’s major index Sensex and Nifty reached their record high in September 2024, a total of 15 companies filed DRHPs with SEBI to bring IPOs on 30 September, making the total number of such filing to 41 in September 2024. This figure is the highest number of DRHP filing made in any one month.
