Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Thieves targeted the house of former international cricketer Narendra Hirwani and decamped with valuables worth lakhs of rupees under Hira Nagar police station limits on Sunday.
The two accused entered the house around 6 am by breaking the door lock with an iron rod and stayed inside for about 45 minutes. Along with jewellery and cash, the thieves also took away cherished gifts given to Hirwani by legendary cricketer Kapil Dev and other prominent personalities.
Narendra Hirwani told Free Press that at the time of the burglary, Hirwani, his wife and their son were sleeping in the house. Two masked burglars broke into the house carrying an iron rod, and stole valuables from a vacant room. Fortunately, they did not enter the room where the family was sleeping. His son woke up early and had gone outside when the alarm raised and the thieves fled with the stolen valuables.
According to the police, one Namita, wife of Narendra Hirwani, a resident of Sukhlia lodged a complaint stating that unidentified miscreants broke into their house by breaking the lock and stole jewellery and cash from the Almirah. At the time of the incident, the family was asleep. When they woke up around 6:30 am on Sunday, they found their belongings missing from their places. The burglars entered through the main door and went to the rooms.
Following the incident, the police reached the spot and examined CCTV footage from the area, but the suspects have not been identified yet. The police have registered a case against the unidentified accused under sections 331(3), 305(a) of the BNS and further investigation is underway.
Narendra Hirwani, a legendary spinner of his time, has trained many spinners across the country and has also served as a coach for the Lucknow franchise in the IPL. He has represented India in 35 international matches across all the formats.
