A jewelry shop in Thane was burgled by two unidentified men who broke into the shop’s shutter and escaped with 5.6 kg of gold ornaments worth nearly ₹5.79 crore. The burglars were captured on CCTV while fleeing with the stolen loot. The incident took place at the Waman Shankar Marathe jewelry shop in Thane on Tuesday, between 2 AM and 5 AM.

The shop’s owner, Ajit Waman Marathe, filed a police complaint after being informed of the theft by locals. Upon reaching the shop, Ajit discovered that gold ornaments weighing 5.6 kg were missing. Reviewing the shop’s CCTV footage revealed two burglars with uncovered faces entering the premises after breaking the shutter.

Assistant Police Inspector Mangesh Bhange of Naupada police station said, “Upon reviewing the CCTV footage installed in the shop, two burglars with uncovered faces entered the shop after breaking the shutter and made off with gold ornaments. We have formed a team to arrest the accused. The photos of the suspects have been circulated among police stations, and we will apprehend them soon.”

Further investigation revealed that the burglars had likely been surveying the shop and its surroundings for several days before the incident. They appeared to have gathered information about the shop’s activities, according to the investigating officer.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code), and efforts are underway to track down the suspects.
