Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has given such a strange statement about India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah, which has caught everyone’s attention. He said that due to lack of extra pace, Bumrah should leave Test cricket and focus on shorter formats. Akhtar believes that Bumrah lacks the extra pace required to succeed in the longest format of the game. Bumrah is currently busy in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and leading the Indian bowling unit.

 

Bumrah-Akhtar are struggling in Tests

Speaking on the TNKS podcast, Akhtar said that Bumrah’s skills are better for the shorter format as he is able to use the line and length correctly. However, he believes that Bumrah struggles in Tests because the batsmen facing him are less aggressive, making it difficult for him to take wickets from the Indian bowlers.

Akhtar said, ‘You know that in Test cricket you have to bowl long spells. Batsmen don’t try to attack you. If the ball doesn’t seam you will have to struggle. When you start struggling, the team starts raising questions. I think he is a good enough fast bowler to take wickets in Test cricket. Akhtar also highlighted the challenges that Bumrah may face in Test cricket. He talked about Bumrah’s performance in the home series against New Zealand, which means increasing the pace could increase the risk of injury.

Bumrah should play in shorter formats

Akhtar said, ‘Although he did not perform anything special in the Test series against New Zealand, but this keeps happening. But if he wants to continue playing Test cricket, he will have to increase his pace. The increased speed increases the risk of injury. If I were Jasprit Bumrah, I would have played only the shorter formats. It just depends on how I feel.
