Akash Anand, the nephew of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president and former Chief Minister Mayawati, has made a powerful comeback to the party. He has been appointed as BSP’s Chief National Coordinator. The decision was taken by BSP supremo Mayawati during a meeting held in Delhi on Sunday. Akash Anand had arrived with Mayawati to attend the party’s meeting on Saturday. His recent return to the party had sparked speculation that he might soon be given a major responsibility, which materialised on Sunday.

While assigning Akash Anand this key role, Mayawati stated that the decision to appoint him as the chief national coordinator was taken with the consensus of party members from across the country. He has also been entrusted with the party’s future programmes.

Mayawati expressed hope that this time, Akash would exercise all necessary caution in the interest of the party and the movement. She also expects him to contribute significantly to strengthening the party. The BSP supremo made this crucial decision during the party’s All-India meeting in Delhi, where she also issued important directives to office-bearers on organisational strengthening.

Past Controversies and Reconciliation

During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Akash Anand had landed in controversy due to his sharp statements, particularly targeting the BJP. His remarks had drawn strict disapproval from Mayawati. Additionally, due to internal factionalism within the party, Mayawati had earlier expelled Akash Anand’s father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, from the party. Subsequently, Akash Anand was also removed from his post and ousted from the party. However, he later publicly apologised to Mayawati.
