BSNL 5G , Good news for BSNL users! According to the information given by the Minister of Telecommunications, BSNL’s 4G network will be upgraded to 5G from June. Therefore, competition in the telecom sector is likely to be more intense. While every telecom company is engaged in expanding its network, BSNL has also gained momentum in this race.
Government telecom company BSNL’s 4G network will be upgraded to 5G from June. The company is planning to start around one lakh 4G sites by June, out of which about 89 thousand 4G sites have already been established. Interestingly, the company has used indigenous technology for its 4G network.
Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that BSNL’s 4G network will be upgraded to 5G from June. India is one of the five countries in the world which has developed its 4G technology. The government aims to develop this technology up to 5G.
Recently, the Central Government has approved a Rs 6,000 crore fund to BSNL for the expansion of its 4G network. This amount will also be used for the 4G network of the company’s a subsidiary Metropolitan Telephone Corporation Limited (MTNL). BSNL controls MTNL, providing telecom services in Delhi and Mumbai.
Foreign companies may be allowed to bid for telecom equipment contracts worth about $ 2 billion to upgrade BSNL’s network to 5G. The inclusion of foreign telecom equipment companies for the company’s 5G network upgradation is likely to lead to major changes in government policy.
BSNL is having difficulty competing with private telecom companies due to lack of 5G mobile services. The software manufacturer is responsible for setting up a 4G network of a union company led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The government is considering the proposal to reserve half of the 5G tender for domestic companies, while foreign companies may be allowed to bid for the remaining part.
BSNL has recorded a net profit of about Rs 262 crore in the third quarter of the current financial year, which is its first quarter benefit after about 17 years. The company has introduced some new services in the last few months and the revenue of BSNL has increased by about 15 percent from mobile services in the December quarter.
