Kolkata: BSF jawan at Charbhadra Base of 146th Battalion under BSF South Bengal Frontier, acting on an information, foiled the gold smuggling attempt on the India-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad district of West Bengal and arrested a smuggler with 3 gold biscuits and 1 gold coin.
When the smuggler was trying to smuggle the gold from Bangladesh to India, the BSF caught him and seized gold which weighs 467 grams and the estimated value of the same is Rs 36.73 lakhs.
On the other hand, tension erupted at the Indo-Bangladesh border in Sukhdevpur in Malda after Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) attempted to obstruct the construction of a barbed wire fence there.
DIG (South Bengal Frontier) and Spokesperson N K Pandey, however, said that normalcy had returned to the area and the construction is going on as planned.
